Song Information:

This is a remake of a track I first did back in 2003.

A club night called CDR (at Plastic People, London) which is touted as 'A Night of Ideas and Tracks in the Making' caught my eye in early 2005 because it was based on the 'open mic' principle, but for electronic music, so that aspiring, or even established pruducers, mixers, artists, etc, can take their own work along on CD (hence CDR) and get it played in a club environment and on a full size club sound system.

A DJ friend of mine had heard the original version of Synthetic and pushed me to take it along to CDR. Being a bit shy and not really thinking it was good enough for public consumption, I resisted but eventually agreed, but said I'd have to work on it a bit more first.

The track was orginally produced using Apple's Soundtrack sequencing software, but I'd been learning to use Logic recently so I decided to remix and remaster the track in Logic, before submitting it at CDR.

CDR is a monthly event and Kaybar set me a deadline when we left the April CDR to have the track ready for the next CDR - 12th May 2005.

I spent many many hours tweaking and changing and adjusting minute details right up until 7.30am on the day, 12th May. Hence, the name 'Synthetic (12th May Remix)'.

I was mega nervous and even left the CD in my coat at the coat-check, coz I was chickening out, but Kaybar and her good friend Mary strong-armed me into handing it over to them and they handed it over to the DJ.

All I can say is that all my fears were needless and all my effort was worth it, because much to my surprise, it kicked ass! It sounded really great on the club system and got a lot of nodding heads and some serious 'big up ya' whistles from the crowd. More so than many of the other perfectly decent tracks played during the night. Wow!

... and Phew!

I still don't think it's really that good and this is a relatively small and underground club night, but it's nice to be appreciated and I guess it means I'm at least doing something right and than encourages me to keep learning and keep having fun with it.

Big thanks to Gavin and the rest of the crew at CDR for giving people the opportunity to do stuff like this and big hugs to Kaybar and Mary for making me submit!

:-)
