Song Information:

I wanted to return to my favorite genre for the competition, so I wrote me some jazz. I was trying to capture the feel of the kind of song you'd hear late at night in a smoky club, with a quartet and a "girl singer". I love standards, and that's what I was going for here.

Track 1:Jazz Piano Bar 18, 19, 13, 23, 22, 26, and 27. With reverb

Track 2:Walking Upright Bass 01 and 04. With reverb

Track 3: Lounge Jazz Drums 15 and 06. With reverb

Tracks 4, 5, and 6:Vocal Track with slight compressor, Vocal Presence EQ, and reverb. All three tracks are the same, one set to the left, one to the right, and one in the middle. It gives the vocals more fullness.

Track 7:Solo Vibraphone. There are two keyed sequences, one that is repeated in the chorus, and one at the end. The vibe solo consists of loops from other instruments brought into the software vibe field. These are: Upbeat Electric Piano 03, Blue Jazz Organ Riff 13, and Walking Upright Bass (I played this bass as found, then copied it and repeated one octave down).

That's it. 7 Tracks, 4 instruments and 1 tripled vocal.

Song Lyrics:

Smooth as silk, slick as oil
Sly as a fox, you're never true or loyal
You're a rake, a bounder, a rascal, a cad
Why, oh, why do I like my boys bad?

You set your sights in that smoky room
Helpless as a kitten, I sauntered your way
You smiled, you laughed, enjoying my doom
I couldn't resist that black hair touched with grey

::Refrain::

You put on airs; lived like a king
I thought you were the man you pretended to be
The bills came in; I paid everything
A wink, a kiss, and a slap on the tush was your currency

::Refrain::

You stole my heart, and all of my rings
You took my natural pearls but skipped the cultivated
I should have known I'd lose all my things
You wouldn't even breathe without being compensated

::Refrain::

::Some noodling around::

::Refrain::
