I was sitting around one day, watching TV, playing guitar, and a commercial came on and the jingle said something about a little string. Then I wrote the chorus and first 2 lines of the first verse, called Beasley and told him we were writing a Buck Owens song, and then we did.
I'm ashamed to admit that I wasn't familiar with Buck's song of the same title until we were almost done with the song. Mark looked it up because he remembered it and we learned that Buck's was called "Sam's Place", the bar in our song had a different name at the time. So we decided to call our bar Sam's Place also as a nod to Buck and because ours was written to SOUND like a Buck Owens song anyway.
