Moloch's Ballroom
Here's my annual Halloween swing number. I am no theologian, and so I am uncertain as to whether Baal and Moloch are the same God. In Divine Scripture, in First Kings 11:7, wise King Solomon is described as building an altar to Moloch:
"Then did Solomon build an high place for Chemosh . . . in the hill that is before Jerusalem, and for Moloch, the abomination of the children of Ammon."
"And it came to pass the same night, that the Lord said unto him [Gideon], Take thy father's young bullock, even the second bullock of seven years old, and throw down on the altar of Baal that thy father hath, and cut down the grove that is by it." Judges 6:26
I wrote this music imagining a jazz band playing at a dance in such a temple, and since most mention of Moloch also describes "passing through fire" I made the music appropriately fiery.
I think I'm finally getting the concert band sound I want. Yes, it still sounds like a pipe organ, but that's what bands --a collection of individual wind pipes-- are supposed to sound like!
