Idea (stolen from M&BtB)

It seems the boards are very quiet and have been for some time. It's understandable because things change and people go through things. But MacIdol is such a good site and i think it's worth trying to keep it alive, in the community sense.

Here's the idea, and i got it from Boris's Aorta Theater Show that he posted.

What if we were to collectively do a radio show once a month? It wouldn't have to be perfect or well thought out, or anything as good as what Boris did. His production was very well done but i dont' think we should aim for that, we should just do it for fun, with no pressures.

Here's the way i thought we might do it and if anyone's interested, please chime in.

Okay, i might get the order of this mixed up but....

1)
We each record some random clips, we could talk about something or just say something over and over (like #9, #9, #9, or even do a ditty or a song, if we have it in us, for example. It could be anything at all, anything.
2)
Following Boris's example, we put a song in the middle.
3)
One of us volunteers to edit the clips together into a show. It doesn't have to be perfect!

Also, maybe the person who is putting the show together, it should be that person's song that is the centerpiece. Or not. Maybe that structure wouldn't work, i don't know.

Or maybe the month's designated show designer could name the theme, beforehand, not that anyone would have to follow that theme, just as a kind of starter or to give ideas that could start a brainstorm.

For example, if i volunteered, i would throw out a theme. People would make whatever audio clips, they could be humorous, reflective, stupid, silly, dramatic, singign, dancing, anything. And they would not have to even be related to the theme. Then the clips would be uploaded so i could get them. I would put them together into a radio show.

Do you think that might spark more fun here?

I think it would be fun but i think it would definitely have to be a different person every month as editor, because it would be too much to ask one person to put together a radio show every month.

Okay, it looks like Dava, Jeremy, and me for the first show. I volunteer to be in charge of putting the first show together.

I have already chosen a song for the middle/center part. It's not one of my own but it's a very special song that i got permission to use for the podcast.

Theme is planet Earth, but of course, anything goes!

I am aiming to get this done and posted by January 15th.

I don't know that I can regularly participate in creating the show, but I can get it set up as a "podcast" in with our podcasts, and handle the backend mechanics of publishing it once a month.

Hello, everyone!

I should mention that this isn't turning out to be the kind of radio show that we'd talked about or that i'd imagined when suggesting it. But i am hoping it will be nice for everyone, anyway. The theme is still planet Earth.

Stu, i welcome your ideas or contributions! It's funny you mention that about being snowed in because this particular podcast has started to metamorphose into a winter-themed collection of songs.

However, i can still add things and please don't anyone hesitate if you'd like to contribute something. I'll admit i've become fixated on the planet Earth /winter season thing, so if that could be tied in somehow that would help me out, at this point.

James, are you volunteering?

Anyway, i'm starting to feel a bit awkward, as this was intended to be a collaborative effort, and it still is, of course, but it's just going differently than i'd imagined and i sort of took control and turned it into a fairly "traditional" kind of podcast, as i wasn't sure it would go anywhere if i didn't just start doing something soon.

But, like i said, i can still add things. I could break the show up into two parts if that becomes necessary.

The only thing to keep in mind is that the February RPM is coming up and, if it's anything like the past, i'm guessing a lot of us here are going to be focused on that for the month. I am even thinking of having a go at it, myself.

So, with that in mind, i am still hoping to get this finished by mid-month.

All I'm volunteering to do is record some clips and send them to you...and I was thinking I would be able to do that today but I'm sort of in the middle of recording and mixing 7 songs with my son Gray and he came by today to work on the mixes and input for some final tweaks, and it was not to be. But I can spend some time recording some spoken snippets to insert here and there if you like but if you've got this pretty well along I can save myself and you some time by not doing it. And even if you do want my input, and I manage to get something done, don't expect too much since it probably will be pretty much off the cuff... and maybe unusable!

Stu, well, i should have said, i have not even started on the actual podcast yet, meaning, putting things in GarageBand and announcing songs and credits, and such.

Right now, i have a tentative playlist of songs, most of which i've gotten permission to use. I could list them all here but i guess i am afraid that that might take away some of the fun of it?

Would it be okay, since this is our first effort and since i got insecure and started in on it in my own way... for me to keep people a little in the dark and just say that the podcast will probably be named "Planet Earth - Winter" and that, as of now, i have a collection of roughly ten songs of a variety of genders?

Anything else, i can still add, even if i have to divide it in parts. Anecdotes, poems, mystery theatre, mantras, or if a person would just like to announce their own song, or to announce something else... i'll try to get everything in there.

Everyone who wants to be part of this, i want to include. I just need to set a deadline, i will make it January 15th, so that i can be sure to get everything together and have it done before next month.

Okay, i've completed a podcast. I'm sorry it's taken me so long. And now, how do i go about uploading it as a proper podcast?
