Postby ifingers » Thu Jan 15, 2004 11:43 am

Hi All

1 You need to create an account go to www.macidol.com/tunes.php
Click on one of the sign up links, fill in all required info then activate your account by replying to the Mac Idol email in your mail account.

2 Log in to the Mac Idol Tunes with your username and password.

3 Click Add a song - fill in the name of your song, credits etc, scroll to the bottom and click Upload Hi Fi song.

Mp3's only please - there is a 8MB restriction per song.

Click add a song button at the bottom of the page after 2 or 3 minutes you will get a success page, then click the generate html page, which will create your band site.

Remember this is a free service for ORIGINAL GarageBand compositions only - do not steal music!

Enjoy

Hi All

There is a 8MB single file size limit - you have 25MB of space available in total - please check the size of your mp3 before you upload.

Thanks to all who are sharing their music.

When you export a song from garageband it will save the song in AIFF format. This is an uncompressed format hence the large file size. Compressing the file will make it smaller. To do this in iTunes simply follow these steps.
1. Export song from GB by selecting "Export to itunes" in the "File" menu.
2. Switch over to iTunes and highlight the song you've just exported.
3. Go to the iTunes preferences and select the "Importing" pane.
4. From the "Import using" menu, select MP3 encoder.
5. From the "Setting" menu select "Good Quality (128 kbps)
6. Click "Ok" to save your settings.
7. Now control-click (right click) on your exported GB song, and select "Convert to MP3"
That's it. iTunes will convert your song to the right format and the new song file will be located in the same place as the original. Hope that clears it up :)
Best Regards,
Chris

I can't find the "Add a Song" button anywhere on http://www.macidol.com/tunes.php. Exactly what part of the page?

Go to the MacIDOL header and click the "Sign in" tab. After you sign in successfully look to the left panel for "Add a Song".

Hope that helps.

ballads blues & standards

Postby BarneyRegard » Tue May 01, 2007 5:11 am

Does original GarageBand music include ones own redition of older ballads
by Gerswin, Kern etc?I don.t intend to steal anything but these standards are used constantly in jazz.Even the chord progressios are "borrowed"to write new melodies(I Got Rhythm"has been used so much that many songs are refered to as Rhythm Changes.

Barney.

Original refers to the writing process as well as the recording process. Standards are still technically liable for perfomance royalties to the author (or his/her estate, up to 75 years after their death), and the "No Covers" rule applies here at MacIdol so as to avoid any unnecessary lawyering.

One over-enthusiastic lawsuit would basically put this site out of business.

Building a new song on the bones of an old one is a grey area, alright. In fact my musicianship allows me to use something of the chord structure of an old song and have it be totally unrecognisable. :D

Of course, if you can find tunes that are genuinely public domain, then work away. :)
