New Artists -- June 26, 2009

Once a new "provisional" artist actually posts a song, they get the "provisional" removed. Until this happens, their account may go away.

Starting today, I'm going to post all new artists that move out of provisional status to become permanent MacIDOL Artists.

So, for June 26, please welcome The Heck Yeahs.

1958-2009

Guess you'll have all heard the news by the time you read this, but regardless of what you thought of the guy (and I for one thought he was weird), his music is a grand legacy and 50 is just to frackin' young.

Sky Saxon has left the planet

Sky Saxon, leader of 60s punk rockers the Seeds and writer/singer of wonderful bursts of garage noise such as "No Escape" and "Pushin' Too Hard" has passed on today. He played a show last Thursday, even though he had fallen ill, and went to St. David's Hospital in Austin Tx. Later. Cause of death is still undetermined, but doctors suspect an infection of the internal organs.

He made a lot of awesome music, had a very psychedelic life, and will always be remembered by me as one of the great musicians that only an era like the 60s could have produced.

Togu AU/VST Plugins

Hey,

This Swiss site has a nice collection of free synths and effects.My fav being the excellent TalDub II.They welcome donations, but not required to use.Note the heavy '80's Roland design motifs.Good stuff and very useable!

New Stuff: Playing songs on iPhone/iPod Touch

We now have the ability to play songs on the iPhone and iPod Touch. I only have one nice interface into this right now, but I'll add more soon.

From a song page (e.g. http://macidol.com/song/24450) you should see tabs for hi-fi streams, hi-fi downloads, and such.

Now, if the song has a hi-fi download, it also has a tab for "iPhone-iPod Touch". Just click on that tab, and enjoy the song!

New Kinda Mac Music

The Mentalists play Kids by MGMT on their iPhones and iPod Touches, using only apps downloaded from the Apple App Store. Apps used Ocarina, Retro Synth, miniSynth, DigiDrummer Lite.
