» Oddment Ops w/ Steve K
This also in my jamroom (way down at the bottom) as As Yet, posted under that name because it was OK but not quite finished yet. Here is the completed version.
I recently got reconnected with Steve Kennedy after twenty some years. We used to play in this really left field iconoclast experimental rock band called P. S. Bingo. We never played a gig under any name twice, practiced I think eleven times in the entire existence of the band, played maybe ten gigs (I'm not sure about that exact number,) all over the course of a summer (1985), and did a note perfect (or pretty close to) reunion show 2 years later without any rehearsal.
I am totally blanking on the drummer's name (which I feel awful about, he was freakin' awesome). He was a soft spoken, moustachioed, kind of reserved guy who had a good jazz background and came up with some awesome beats and had a really cool, subtle feel.
The other person in the band was Peter Heustis who does the Princess Sparklepony blog at sparklepony.blogspot.com . He sang and played percussion and toys. Peter would stand off to the side of the stage (or, actually off it sometimes), bang on a piece of metal or play vibraslap or something else, sing through a Hello Kitty toy microphone and little hand-held PA, or straight up sing.
Steve is a guitarist and recordist who is one of my absolutely favorites at both. I don't remember what his guitar was at the time, I remember it as a brown gibson, but I may be totally
misremembering, but the cool thing was he played though an amp and stereo speakers he had built himself. He was also a really good player, who loved dissonance as much as I do. (my favorite chord is a tritone.)
I sent Steve 4 out of 8 tracks of this song as mp3s, and a couple of days later he sent me this beautiful music concrete track that I just find hilarious and pithy and unique. He says he's still futzing, so it'll be interesting to see where it goes next!
