| Jesus Crack I come here tonight to talk to you About a scourge in our communities About a plague that is visiting our nation About a pestilence that is invading our souls I have seen friends fall prey to its powerful influence I have seen loved ones lose their last gleam of intelligence I have seen the weak and the mighty give in to its indulgences I am speaking of a drug that becomes an obsession I am speaking of a drug that is sure to take possession I am speaking of a drug that will seize your soul And hold it hostage I am talking of Jesus Crack Jesus Crack, to which so many are addicted To which so many have given over their lives To which so many pledge their last nickel and dime I am talking about Jesus Crack And boy I wish America would get off the stuff Because I have seen the madness that it can bring Im talking about Oral Roberts seeing a 900-foot-tall Jesus Im talking about sane people giving money to Jim Bakker And who actually wanted to visit his Christian theme park Im talking about politicians seeking the counsel Of Ralph Reed and Jerry Falwell Im talking about schools who wont teach science Im talking about educated folk who take every last word literally Of ancient texts written by we dont even know who Im talking about educated folk with no tolerance for other beliefs Im talking about educated folk who believe in a God Who is petty, vengeful, intolerant and will send all good folk Of other religions straight to the fiery maw of hell Because theyre not born again And dont worship a god who looks and thinks like a man Like a repressive, fiscally conservative, suburban American man Im talking about good Christians talking in tongues Im talking about good Christians handling snakes and praising the Lord Im talking about good Christians spending billions on Christian merchandise And all their fine American material possessions While most of the planet starves If all this doesnt sound like crazy shit, then Im Pat Boone I guess you can be hateful and intolerant As long as you got Jesus Crack I guess you can blow up doctors clinics As long as you got Jesus Crack I guess you can stop thinking altogether As long as you got Jesus Crack I guess you can send everyone else straight to hell As long as you got Jesus Crack I must clarify here, that Im not talking about Those good Christians who really follow the Way Who put love and compassion and humility Above all else, especially the need To sell and convert and indoctrinate Im not talking about those good Christians Who are willing to wash the whores feet Who give money to the beggars of this Earth Who dont want to censor contrary thought Who dont want to jail moral criminals Who might even practice what they preach No, Im talking about the Crackheads Well, as Mr. Jones told me, Some people handle their drugs better than others There are some functioning Crackheads out there But I wish theyd get off the Crack I wish theyd stop snorting and shooting up I wish theyd get off the Nod and wake up I wish theyd haul their sorry asses to a rehab center For Cult junkies and Spiritual drunks Because, my brothers and sisters We got to save this country before its too late Before its run by a bunch of Crackheads Before your every neighbor is a Crackhead Before we cant talk or think about anything but Crack Because Crack is not the answer And God is not a drug pusher And Jesus should not be an addiction --J.C.
