| "One Daba Chicaboo" | |
| About a year ago, my daughter Susan and I were riding in a car driven by her Mom, my ex-wife. I was telling them the story of my sister's Senior Class Trip to Washington DC, where they encountered a waiter with an incredibly thick foreign accent of some sort. He took their orders and repeated the items back to them, and hilarity ensued (it was a bunch of untraveled white rural Northwest Georgians, mind you). What they had given him as "One double cheeseburger" and "Iced Tea" came back (and was actually written on the pad) something like "One Daba (or dubba) Chicaboo" and "Asti" or "Asty". The items came to them just fine, and the meal was perfect, but my sister had told me this tale years ago, and I was now telling it to Susan and her Mom. Well, her Mom said the phrase "One daba chicaboo" sounded like you could make it the lyrics to a song. And then I think Susan added the idea of the "Asti, Asti" chorus. I swore then and there in the car that I would somehow make this song, and possibly someday a video or animation to go with it. Well, here's the song. Enjoy. |
