Cool... I don't get any particular reference offa this one, but I do like it a lot. I wish I had me one a them vl-tones. We used to use one in my first band... We'd hook it up to a peavey amp with an overdrive pedal and make the most horrendous noises with it.
But I digress.
No horrendous noises here -- just pure, clear-quill Osterbergism.
Glad to have new stuff by you up here, Maggie!

Thanks, Matt! I'm pretty rusty, so there's a stumble or two, but it sure feels good to stretch the muscles.
Here's a reference for ya:
BOSSES of a publishing firm are trying to work out why no-one noticed that one of their employees had been sitting dead at his desk for FIVE DAYS before anyone asked if he was feeling okay. George Turklebaum, 51, who had been employed as a proof-reader at a New York firm for 30 years, had a heart attack in the open-plan office he shared with 23 other workers. He quietly passed away on Monday, but nobody noticed until Saturday morning when an office cleaner asked why he was still working during the weekend. His boss Elliot Wachiaski said: 'George was always the first guy in each morning and the last to leave at night - so no-one found it unusual that he was in the same position all that time and didn't say anything. 'He was always absorbed in his work and kept much to himself.' A post mortem examination revealed that he had been dead for five days after suffering a coronary. Ironically, George was proof-reading manuscripts of medical textbooks when he died.
It's not true, <a href="http://www.snopes.com/horrors/gruesome/fivedays.asp"> sadly.</A>

Only on the internet could it be sad that someone didn't die....
Cracking story though.

It's not so much that he didn't die; it's that he didn't exist.

waltzin' with turklebaum as i type this.
i liked that lo fi sound you opened with
i also liked that break with the bass run and the way that lo-fi snare(?) and electronic pulse run through the trac. like a clock tickin as the message unfolds.
regradless of the "story" bein true or not i think this waltz-style fits y'all well.
good luck on the challenge

The lo-fi percussion and the waltz arpeggio all come from this wondrous bit of twenty-five-dollar 1970's analog technology, the Casio VL-1:
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/mediawench/379360375/" title="Photo Sharing"><img src="http://farm1.static.flickr.com/151/379360375_bd6bb803eb.jpg" width="500" height="259" alt="Casio Vl-1 or VL-Tone"></a>
I liked how the "blip!" of the VL-1's waltz rhythm patch sounds like an EKG or heart monitor machine. That's what gave me the idea to put the sound with the story.
