Songalong - Slumbering/MO

...

let's just say you find the style of music which Slumbering sings not to your taste, which personally i think you'd need your head removed and stomped on by log-legged infants, then rest assured that this pairing with Mark Olafsson will satisfy just about every part of your body besides your puny head.

Songalong

good gourd, is this nice! it's like being wrapped in a sugar coat and sent into a room with toothless horses.

musically, Mark's mood will gently spatula you off the floor and flip you over with a deep, indigo slowness. Mirienne's vocal, while it could be a tad louder, is a soft, suede binding which holds the listener tight to the mood of the music. so purely beautiful!

this is one that most certainly should be heard alone. or in great masses. enjoy!

an immediate MacIdol classic. thank you both! outstanding!

I'm on 2nd. listen as I type. I like the way the record crackle comes and goes. Real nice work Mark and Slumbering! Very peaceful...
This gives me an idea. Slumbering, I can carry a tune and have a decent bass vocal. Someday, maybe we could do a double phantom duet love ballad...

Boris, i can't tell you how great it is to have someone really appreciate the music here, the way you do. I envy your ability to convey the character of songs through words alone. I am also very glad you enjoyed it and feel honored and almost proud that you've said such wonderful things.

clanger, thank you <3 And thanks for Love Life, too!

Well, this is a flaw of mine in the song... what i actually wanted was an interference sort of effect, like i'm trying to get through lines (like telephone lines and internet cables or radios or sound waves), and get through the interference of space, to reach whoever it is... like, wanting to get through but having trouble, but still trying. I used the telephone line effect along with another "granular" one. I should work on that part a bit more. But actually, the record idea kind of fits, too, now that i think about it.

FOSCO, THAT IS THE BEST OFFER I HAVE HAD MY ENTIRE LIFE! <3

Bill, to have you call it delicious is the best compliment, as so many of your songs are like sweet, rich confections.

MO, THANK YOU FOR YOUR BEAUTIFUL GUITAR! I might not have finished this if you hadn't done that. *curtsies*

wow . . .

Congratulations to both of you on this beautiful work.

I´ll play devil´s advocate and say I like the atypical mixing choice of keeping the vocals lower in the mix and keeping the guitar in front. Just because slumbering´s voice is so beautiful doesn´t mean it needs to be front and center. There´s a certain delicacy that is preserved by the way the song is mixed in my opinion, and it keeps you wanting more of the voice, and wanting is always a good thing, sometimes better than having.

Thank you all, Katie, Dava, Stu, and Ed!

I agree with Ed, when i was doing the song, there were places where i was afraid Mark's guitar might not shine through as well if my voice were too loud in the mix. And i wanted every note of his playing to be heard. I really think his guitar makes the whole song. Also, i wanted a sort of distant effect with my voice. Sort of distorted but trying to come through... Gosh, too tired to explain anymore, all of a sudden...

Except, i am realizing that "Acid" is some kind of dance genre now! I'm getting old, i was thinking of Acid Rock when i chose that genre, somewhere closer to psychedelic. So i will probably change that!

Thanks for all the kind words folks and Boris your descriptions are a work of art by themselves. :)

You have done a wonderful job Slumbs, so like I imagined. I love the way your voice is
so distant and then blends in a dreamy way with the guitar.
I think the effect gets in the way of your voice which would be nice
to hear at the same volume as the guitar, kind of like a duo.

I'm still a little dazed from listening to this as I have never heard vocals with anything I've done.

Before it slips away, here is another lovely piece of music from Slumbs
