Mr toots.
You are correct, it is a jewel. It will be on my Radio "Only the best" straight away. See how I did that? Shameless! BTW. It sure would be nice if, on a song page, there could be a button to check that would add that song to your Radio Station. That would be a fab feature. Another thang. How do you ref a link in a post. I haven't figured that one out yet. Thanks Jibes
jibes - shameless indeed, but very appropo! hehe
if you click on the "Quote" button above this reply, it will show you the code behind my ref link to The MacIdol Forum FAQ. this FAQ should be able to answer anything you need! as for Long Way To and Fro, well, this is a great example of when collaborations just seem to naturally work together. i mean, often times it can be a risky thing when styles don't mesh well together and the result comes off forced, uninteresting, or just not very good. not the case with this at all, here! this is wonderful. it's so good, i cried in sheer delight, i tell you! musically, this one totally did it for me. it's like somebody squeezed you three into a candy bar or something. the flute is just, plain killer. awesome! hats off to the wind instrument peoples. wow. and the mix of the banjo and mandolin is just crazy outrageous! lyrically, it's fun and serves that purpose. imho, there's much room there for a more challenging set of words, be it a tale, lesson, or story. but as it is, it's more of a declaration or realization, which is just fine as well. i think it's funny the line about "trout hunting flies." not sure why i like this line, maybe from my illustrator's eye i can envision a bunch of little trout with their camo fatigues on, orange hats and vests, and plasticky license pinned on loosely... perhaps one of them is named Cheney? hehe alas, this is such a fine tune and is representative of all that is good about a genre like this one. the collaboration gels like the belly of a beached pickerel and the result is just fantastic! great work, gang! 5 Star Seller!! Highly Recommended!! Will Buy From Again!! A+++!! [url=http://tinyurl.com/2u5j6z]The Tragic Tale of Boris the Bull. (21 min.)

Supergroup!
It sounds like quite a party with musical friends jamming around a large kitchen table. Good cheer and above all great fun.
Superb imagery. Last edited by clanger on Sat Feb 18, 2006 3:15 pm, edited 1 time in total.

I got to hear this in the making and Stuart mixed it up rather nicely with this version.
It was great to hear Matt’s part, as I hadn’t realized that was added. I really liked that sound Matt. The woodwind section with it's soft interludes is well played and properly placed. Very nice Karen. I also really love this style of music and this piece represents it well. Nice collaboration folks!
Well, i always loved The Ash Leaf Swirl, Stu, and i love what it's now become. Wonderful, all of you!
Oh heck, since it's sort of in the same vein, I thought maybe sticking this plug here for Mole in the Ground by vuvuf would be a teeny bit appropriate, since it's sort of old-timey too. A newcomer that deserves notice, if you're into this sort of thing!
i've been trying to post here all day, but i had the kids and they had Garageband
thanks everyone! for your tasteful and perceptive comments - it was indeed a gas making this and made very easy by the way Karen and Matt got into the spirit of the track, which I envisaged in a bit of a barn dance setting. The tune is something I've been playing for years, but got out again after hearing Karen's Forever and Always which had such a familiar joyousness to it. And then Matt Griffin had to go and let rip some great Bluegrass with Black Old Snow and set forth the idea of The MacIdol Mountain Boys. Well begging Karen's pardon, The MacIdol String Band is a bit of a misnomer, too, So ... It's always a pleasure to meet someone with good taste and (erm) scissors cheers Rob - it's not often I get comments about my mixing, and I shall treasure this one ain't that the truth! I was impressed by this myself .. thank you. anyone who has spent time up in the MacIdol Mountains, will attest to the way time flows differently up there, uncluttered by the distractions of the mundane world, and this song is a celebration of 'Having Time' - if you want to write different lyrics then feel free to extemporise ... again you hit the nail on the head, Boris, and I think the idea of being able to notice "trout hunt the flies" speaks about time again ... not the sudden blip of a disappearing mayfly, but the sense of the territory of a particular group of fish, and their preferred targets and approaches. Cheney? perhaps ... perhaps ... now there's a handy link Good idea! Again the Truth is spoken and s/he who has ears to hear - let s/him hear. Thanks for the kind words, I am honoured to make your playlists and am sure my collaborators feel likewise, (if there is any hooch left, you can have a sup and firstly Good man, Yerself. It is indeed. I'd like to personally thank the MacIdol outage of midnight on the 18th for providing this timeless opportunity to reply at leisure (hic) Last edited by cStu on Sun Feb 19, 2006 10:59 am, edited 1 time in total.
Bit late on this! You could call yourselves "The Incredible MacIdol String Band" but there might be copyright problems.
Terrific collab and it's off to join all the other goodies on my ipod. Thanks guys - you make commuting a real pleasure! Here you will find dava's page
It's awkward having a life sometimes, for sure How about The Incred-Idol String Band?
Or "The Incredulous String Band" I'm waiting for my machine to blow up btw. See here for details. Here you will find dava's page
Replied there, Dava. Talk to Apple.
I was hoping to find a way to inclde the wind aspect of this particular String Band (this is none too serious btw) so I'm thinking perhaps: The MacIdol Wind-up String band? Karen and Matt are somewhat quiet of late, doncha think?
Dude, you put this thing together, so I kind of set myself in "lurk" mode on this one, 'coz I thought you deserved every bit of the credit. But since invited... Sally Ann Forrester & Bessie Lee Maudlin were both members of Bill Monroe's Bluegrass Boys, so there is precedent for having female members of a bluegrass band with "Boys" in the name. I never thought of excluding anyone by suggesting that name. But... whatever, really. I would like to suggest this -- we could all be members of the band, whatever it endes up being named. I think it would be cool to set up a jamroom for it & we could all start passing around tunes & play on each others stuff, and the collaborations could be put up in two places -- whoever is running a particular collab could post it at their site, and the song could also be put on the "Macidol String Band Project" page. Just a thought... --Frog with ideas
Dat dere's Jason Gregory I do believe. i like his Blue Ridge, very much. Welcome back Jason if you're watching.
Great idea, Matt. I'm up for that. Does anyone know can more than one person have permission to ulpoad to a jamroom?
