<strong>Introducing Apple GarageBand 3</strong>
<img src="http://www.macidol.com/assets/images/garageband-3-screen.jpg" alt="GarageBand 3" />
<strong>GarageBand 3</strong>
The best way to record music on a Mac is now the best way to record podcasts, too.
<strong>New GarageBand Features</strong>
<ul>
<li>Easily create podcasts in the new Podcast Studio mode and publish them with iWeb.</li>
<li>Add radio-style sound effects and jingles to your recordings and podcasts.</li>
<li>Sound like a professional radio host with the built-in expertise of an audio engineer.</li>
<li>Create a talk show podcast and interview one or more remote guests simultaneously via iChat.</li>
<li>Create a music score for your iMovie even if you’re not a musician.</li>
</ul>
In addition to being the best way to make music on a computer, <strong>GarageBand 3</strong> is now also a complete solution for creating professional quality Podcasts. Voices can easily be recorded using the built-in expertise of an audio engineer and Podcasts can be enhanced with radio-style sound effects and music jingles, chapter artwork and URL links. Talk show Podcasts are created easily by interviewing one or more guests simultaneously in iChat AV and recording directly into GarageBand 3. Podcasts can be posted for the world to enjoy on .Mac and submitted to iTunes using iWeb. In addition, a new video track makes it easy to create music to score iMovie projects.

I think the Video track capability will be useful, as will the Video podcast functionality. GarageBand will now make you an <a href="http://www.macidol.com/reviews/ipod/2005/12/apple-ipod-video-60gb.html">iPod Video</a> star
The share capability will be great for <a href="http://www.macidol.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=7">collaborations</a> too.
<strong>Cool...</strong>
"When you’re done recording your podcast in GarageBand 3, just send it to iWeb for publishing. Once your podcast arrives in iWeb, you can either create a new podcast series or add a new episode to an existing series. Then iWeb puts your podcast on the web with one click to .Mac.
You can also submit your podcast to the iTunes Music Store from iWeb. The chapter markers and episode tags you added in GarageBand help listeners find your podcast on iTunes."

<img src="http://www.macidol.com/assets/images/garageband-3-detail.jpg" alt="GarageBand 3 detail"/>
Podcast track, Male and Female Host tracks, Jingle Tracks, Nature Sounds and Animal Noises...
<strong>Any chance of a duck?</strong>
<img src="http://www.macidol.com/assets/images/garageband-3-ducking.jpg" alt="GarageBand 3 Podcast ducking"/>
"GarageBand 3 includes features that act like your own personal radio engineer. Add a dynamic 'ducking' effect that automatically reduces music volume while you’re speaking."
Does it do 24 Bit audio though?

meh, podcasts are overrated. Oo radio - but.. RECORDED! boring. I would've like to have seen the ability to have multiple tempos in one or more tracks, a decent vocoder, a better pitch shifter, and perhaps a built in visualizer just like what itunes has. But that's just my two cents.
Windows: made for smashing.

It was a dead cert. Apple reinforce the sales of one product with another.

There were a bunch of "hidden" new features in GB2 that Apple didn't promote, such as individual track panning with the string and global pitch shift using the master track. Wouldn't be surprised to see a few presently unpublicised new features show up in GB3, including some new effects and pre-sets.

Yeah, basically there's no real GB3. Its added extra capabilities but nothing that's going to make my recordings sound better. A bit disappointed to be honest.
Mind you, its kick-arse to begin with for the price so what am I moaning about!?

I've got to agree with Finer here. I get the feeling Apple have hit a wall musically with GB (assuming they haven't underplayed it's musical capabilities) and are adding "bells and whistles" to attract a larger audience.
If you want a sign that perhaps Apple are prepared to sit on GB's "core" capabilities, remember that surreal pre LE7.1 period when GB had features Logic Express didn't? (Hybrid Synths, etc.) I went to an Apple music seminar in Manchester during that period. Oh boy, did the Apple bods look uncomfortable when that bit was addressed/swept under the carpet...

It seems to me that Apple seem to hide the best bits? ReWire support etc was barely mentioned, I am hopeful that they have done the same this time. I hope they have some cool, heavyweight audio features that the marketing department thought best not to mention... time will tell...

hmm
fo 79 beans its prolly worth it but
man i hate spillin da cart upside down n not bein able to get all da apples back in da cart.
might get it fo da g5 but fo da g4 runnin 10.3.9 (which i use da mostest) im just not seein any use fo it mainly cuz id have to upgrade ta tony n to be honest with an 800 mhz proc., im just not seein it pushin all these bells n whistles
but im from da school of if n it ain't broke don't fixit n if upgradin costs mo then the original program fuxit
still tho 79 beans fo da g5 might be sumptin' kren would like ta 'ave.
maybe one day we'll get da studio flushed out n a lil sound studio engineer class unda da belt n take dat leap into a mo powerful set up
then again i sux at dat shit so i'll prolly just stix to my 4 trax n no effects and buy an electric g'tar, acoustic bass n a martin .6 string.. or i could just get real red n fix my truck n live with what i got n let real engineers fix da mix (which im doin now save da axes n truck repairs)... i just rambled in a complete circle didn't i
yo vinny mo vino!

I just picked up <a href="http://www.macidol.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4734">Apple iLife '06</a> and have just installed it....
GarageBand looks good. No probs with installation (you have to upgrade to 10.4.4) to enable some features though)
<strong>GarageBand 3 First Impressions:</strong>
The User Interface is spanking - Looks a lot slicker, there is a media browser, and most importantly of all - it played the last song I was working on just fine! Phew!
So far it's all good... I'll post a detailed review soon...
What is your <a href="http://www.macidol.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4744">review of GarageBand 3</a> ?

The pitch shifter sucks for the current one! Why not upgrade that?
And at least give us a vocoder!
I think they were aiming for more beginner users rather then junkies like us. Stupid podcasting.

Got it! Slick yes, but there don't seem to be many musical changes in there. Is there any way of getting the track info window to "float" as it did in previous versions? I don't like it stuck on the end of the track window and I can't see anything in the prefs that lets you change it.

I was just about to start installing it before you posted this! Not sure I like the sound of the non-floating window. Is there any chance you post a screenshot to show us what this looks like? I may decide not to install!
Cheers
