Apple iPod Video review

Postby ifingers » Thu Dec 29, 2005 3:35 pm

I have reviewed my Apple iPod Video from a musicians perspective.

<a href="http://www.macidol.com/reviews/ipod/2005/12/apple-ipod-video-60gb.html">Apple iPod Video Review</a>.

I have also done a review for iPresents too which is a more general type of review for the average iPod user.

<a href="http://www.ipresents.co.uk/music/2005/12/ipod-video.html">iPresents iPod Video Review</a>.

Please feel free to discuss the Apple iPod Video or my reviews here.

Good review. I'm thinking about getting a new iPod [K calls me "Gadget Man" and I am.]

Can the new ones connect to the old docking station with firewire? Knowing Apple - probably not. I think firewire is a lot quicker.

No they can't connect to the existing dock, it won't fit my 30gb iPod anyways... :( Luckily I have a USB charger which I bought for my daughter's iPod shuffle.... I haven't found the speed to be too much of an issue though.

So, you buy the iPod Video, then you need:
A Universal dock
A charger if you want to take it on holiday
A decent case

Not cheap by any stretch of the imagination... Although I think it makes Apple look cheap...

Oh, and then a new Griffin iTalk or any other remote-connector-using old iPod accessories you might want to replace if you had them for an older iPod...

Buggers...

It doesn't even come with a charger!

My original one had a charger, docking station and a case. Methinks this is an example of the economic laws of Supply and Demand. Guess they're too good.

It seems a little cheap to me, the iPod is great, but the lack of dock and charger cheapen the whole "Apple" experience...

The lack of charger has been brought up a lot in discussions.
Somehow in the feeding frenzy of rising shares on the back of the iPod's success Apple have lost sight of their obligations to customers.

I can't help but agree with you all, as I recently bought a refurb 3g ipod which came with all the goodies you would expect.

Apple's profits have been massive, surely not by shaving the cost of supplying the extras?

I sure hope not. They have 83% of the market, the only way they can keep that is by keeping their customers happy.

They announced the iPod FM Tuner Remote yesterday too, surely they could have fit a radio into the 5th gen iPods? A lot of mobile phones have one... It seems that they are not happy with just selling iPods, they want to squeeze a lot more than that from their customers.

Add it up - iPod + dock + charger + decent case + FM Tuner - man, unless you have shares in Apple, that is not cheap by any stretch of the imagination.
