Turbo Charge your PowerBook G4

Postby ifingers » Fri Oct 21, 2005 12:30 pm

My PowerBook G4 17inch 1.5GHZ 1GB RAM can sometimes slow to a crawl. Especially running iPhoto and Photoshop at the same time. I have been clearing my system drive of all my porn, :P ooops i mean redundant data and that helped a little bit. Still very frustrating though... So I had a look at upgrading my memory. Memory for the PB G4 seems quite reasonably priced now, so I bought two 1GB modules, from crucial uk and now Kundun flies. OK it may not be pumping out as much data as a 16GB loaded G5 Quad, but it has made a big difference to my machine.

So if like me your PowerBook is slower than a Barry Manilow gig, pump it full of RAM and you too can be speedy gonzales...

Anybody wanna buy a 512MB stick for a PB G4? I have two for sale. I will accept food vouchers, sexual favours and guitar strings as payment. lol

As soon as I get a chance I'll see if i notice any improvement in GarageBand and see how Logic Pro runs - when it finally turns up... bloody slow ebayers...

384Mb (256 + 128) I've thought of replacing the 128 with a 256 for a total of 512 but I don't need a new keyring at the mo' ;) (it was only 6 years ago that 32Mb seemed like overkill to me! )

I hear ya! I used to dream about having 1GB of RAM - I am still shocked by the new G5's 16GB capacity...

Its a good reminder Rich. My dual g4 has 1.25 gb and an empty slot that could do with another 512mb SDRAM chip. At £70 (www.crucial.com) its maybe a little too much to fork out at the moment..but yes well worth the investment. :D

Both my iBook and my iMac are max'd (768 MB) - this was in the days when you could max the RAM for less than the price of the computer
