In another thread, I told of a recent encounter with what I'd thought was a dead body. Turned out to be a sleeping crazy guy, but the incident freaked me out. As therapy, I wrote a song. Maggie asked me to post it, and although I'd had no intention to do so, I figured it would be okay.
Serial Killer
It's about those fears we harbour inside us and the echoes of our thoughts when confronted with unusual, possibly dangerous, situations -- all sung to an up tempo Latin beat! cha cha cha.

As I listened to your song, I started thinking it could have evolved into a jazzy bossa nova, like Sarde's "Smooth Operator". Personally, I think I would have been tempted to do a parody of that wonderful old lyric: The foot bone's connected to the - leg bone... the leg bone's connected to the..."
I really liked the free-form collage of commentary throughout, which I think communicates the frenetic state of mind we experience when startled or frightened. (So many questions.)
Overall, a light-hearted way to get that experiential monkey off your back. I hope you feel better about it now.

Joanna, listened once, then a second time... This is an unusual song to me... the style in a carefree way, with such a serious lyrical message, never heard anything like it... Hmmmm, you're turning out to be quite an interesting MacIDOL icon as in - "Oh, there's a new Joanna song, gotta check it out....
Which leads me to the comment I made to me wife yesterday, "I love the way I can hear new music every day at MacIDOL, you never know what diamond you'll uncover by the click of a mouse..

I'll be the first to admit that this is a bizarre song. I hadn't intended posting it, but Maggie asked me to, and I figured it would be okay to do so.
I'm not sure how it ended up being such a contrasty song. I think when I first opened GB (knowing I wanted to sing away my experience to put it behind me) I chose the light-hearted rhythms as an attempt to get me out of my mood. I started improvising lyrics and a melody and ended up with that "serial killer" refrain. When I went back to work on it, I played around with a lot of different vocal parts -- background singers, police radio, etc. This is what I ended up with.
Weird song, but what the heck. Experimentation helps us grow.

And in the news a man was arrested trying to break into an apartment building armed only with a spoon. The suspect is believed to be a cereal killer
Killa tune, Joanna, love the multitracked vocals and the narrative line counterpoints nicely.

I'm glad you liked it, Maggie. I definitely wouldn't have posted it if you hadn't asked to hear it.
And Kilroy's feeling his oats, apparently! Thanks for the listen.
I still think it's a really strange song.

"Strange" is relative!
I know mine are.

im hearin ya, but it could be done with like abstract painted art stuffs. not specific imagery. cool thang bout tunage like this is if n ya made a imovie ya wouldn't have to paint an explicit picture so to speak.. make sense.
but i can understand why ya don't want to
