I Got a Water Pistol Named Betsy

Postby Joanna » Fri Oct 15, 2004 2:30 pm

I was playing some old tapes and found a song I wrote a long time ago. Those were the days when I played the guitar really badly and wrote songs to that sterling accompaniment.

I Got a Water Pistol Named Betsy was one of my favorites. It's about a kid getting revenge against bullies with a water pistol. Ah, the good old days. I hope you enjoy it despite the bad guitar.

Hey thats not a bad bit of blues playing.. some nice licks and you really combine it nicely with your vocals. I like this.
and I think your telling a little fib when you say you never got too good on guitar. A lot of people never reach that standard of playing and certainly can't throw it all together with such verve.
Heres to the mud in yer eye.
cheers

You have got such a great voice... I'm probably not the only one envious of that. And despite the squeaky guitar fingers, the playing is terrific, simply, and more advanced than any amateur I know.

A very simple, yet enjoyable tune, J... nice job!

This is wonderful! Do you still have that guitar?, because I don't think there's anything wrong with your playing at all on this. I dig the looseness of this. "Loosey-Goosey" as Jack Black says in School of Rock. That, coupled with your usual more than excellent writing, makes something really special.

Clanger - No fibs. Most of my playing was pretty simplistic. This is the only song where I did anything even slightly advanced, and I worked on it forever.

Boris - you know, I never thought my singing voice was anything special because I don't have a big range. It's been a real awakening for me to come to a place like this and have so many people react positively to my singing.

Toots - I still have the guitar, but I haven't picked it up in over a decade. I don't even know I'd remember how to play a chord, let alone play worth singing to. A long time ago, I used to play that guitar and write songs. Then for some reason, I stopped and forgot all about writing music. It wasn't until garage band that I remembered how much I used to enjoy it.

Maggie - thank you!

Thank you to all of you! It's so wonderful how encouraging everyone is here.
