I've been working like crazy the past few weeks and tonight was the first chance I've had to take a deep breath. Figured that as long as I was doing all that breathing, I should probably exhale in F-flat. The result is what I hope is a boppy, feel-good, not all that tight because it was more fun to leave it loose and free song called "You Do Me Good"
Let me know what you think!

Thanks for the feedback, Robert!
There was only one harmonica available. I would've liked more to choose from, but oh well. There is a bass line. Maybe it's too soft.
Not that I ever pay much attention to my loops, of course.
I just finished editing two novels for a publisher I haven't worked for before. I put in some crazy monster hours to get them done because I'm so broke. I'm hoping it'll speed up my check. (these books were HUGE -- 700 pages apiece).
Now I have to find some new work. sigh.

hey,
you're welcome. and i can not imagine bein in the biz you're in. ugh. i love to read, but it helps if i like it
i hope the readin wasn't horrifyin' as in slow. not a big fan of the slow read.
btw,the bassline was a bit down under but i was speakin more of the bridge/break. NOT that a song has to have one mind you. great thing about music is defying the formula is always fun!!!
good to see ya back at it !

After working on Iraq Attack for 4 hours yesterday, your song does Me Good to hear a fun and lighthearted song. Good work, n the harmonica seems to be jumping into songs all over now. That's great to hear other people using a fine instument.

Great fun, Joanna!!!
I like the loosely swinging feel and the harmonica gives it a hootenanny spin that reminds me of Toots Theilman's records.
I like Robert's idea about fattening up the bassline and adding a harmonica break to delineate the structure and open the song up a bit.
Four out of five stars!

Simple, elegant, and even though the "harp" is on its own as one little loop, this helps set up a groove with the bass that just skips along so well. Damn, makes me wish I owned an upright bass. Get Fosco blowin' the lead groove for just a tad more "humanity" and this one's a world wide number 1 - 4.5 as it stands, prolly 5 with Fosco playing his "organ" on it
Damn, it's just such a positive little thing - it's well and truly done me good.

Wow, thanks for all the positive comments!
Naturally, as soon as I posted it, my email pinged and one of the stories I edited has come back for round two. So much for catching my breath, and getting to play on GB.
Still, this talk of a bridge intrigues me. Originally, I had (don't laugh) a medieval flute pop in for the bridge. It actually sounds okay in the song, but I was afraid it would be too, er, surprising, so I cut it. I'll see how it sounds with a harmonica break instead.

Okay, I posted the other version -- the one with the flute (just uploaded it in place of the other song, so the link at the top of the thread still works).

I gave yer latest version a spin.... ahhhhhh, not too sure if the flute works... What do others think I wonder? I have a .mac account now so I can collaborate with iDisk... If you ever decide to take this a be further... I'm thinking I could put in a live harp in place of the harmonica loop with some breaks or something, the harp loop seems almost overdone a bit. Then add some lower end harp sound in a few places...
Got plenty of iron in the fire now... but would be honored to mix in with yer fine tune and voice!

Fosco - adding a real harmonica performance would be really cool! I'm all for that!

Hey, Joanna, I'm gunna split the difference and say that the flute can work, but cut the longer measure slightly shorter and pull its level back and duck the harmonica under it a bit (but not quite as much as you did for one of the voice passages.
I think you've got a natural ear for this sort of stuff, and the flute adds interest, it's just how you balance it.
At the risk of seeming like I'm telling people what to do , hey Fosco, you reckon you could swing the harmonica line and put some improv on the theme in the odd measure? Maybe as punctuation to the vocals?
Tell me to pull my head in, either of you if I'm out of line

Okay, I put back the original file while I futz around, trying to figure out what I want to do (if anything). If Fosco wants to put real harp music to it, that would be my first choice. Otherwise, I'll mess around with the file and see what happens.
