U go Jo

i simply love this vocal delivery. joanna thanks. i realize where your inspiration came from, but the beauty is, it can truly be takin in many different meanings. which imho is the art of writing a lyric.

playin on words. phrasin a thing just so that it speaks in image. and when it can have double meaning or multiple meaning its got t be a keeper.

and "the light may have gone" but the song remains and beauty it is.

p.s. i tried to find the original plug for this tune but gave up
and i truly felt it needed to be brought back into the light, so to speak.

you go jo, i love your voice. its truly wonderful.

Thank you, Robert. I think it was discussed in the thread about writing a song in half an hour, which means the time spent was discussed, but not the song ( "Where Has the Light Gone") itself. So I am grateful to hear you liked it.

I told this to Robert, but to explain what he meant by double meaning: the inspiration came from the overhead light in my kitchen going out. I'm having some landlord problems and she's refusing to fix anything in my apt. Therefore, my kitchen remains in the dark (a most annoying state for a kitchen). I took that oppressive, hopeless feeling and turned it into a song.

I think it's a good example on how music can heal us, and speak when we are mute. I can't get my landlord to listen to me, but I can still express myself, and release some of those pent-up emotions. I felt much better after writing the song.

I think it was Rossini who said, "Give me a laundry list and I'll set it to music." One thing I've learned over the years is that the most ordinary everyday mundane stuff can make great art when given just a little spin. This song is a great example of that, a blown lightbulb inspires a song about paradise lost. Joanna, thankyou for turning me on (pun intended) to your style of music, you've broadened my musical horizons by a whole order of magnitude.

Thank you, Kilroy. Your support here is one of the reasons I continued to try to write songs, and will keep on doing so (as soon as I get some of that pesky work done).

For non-fiction, I have a new publisher, and I'm having a wonderful experience working with them. Unlike my old publisher, they don't treat books like something off an assembly line, with authors as work-for-hire slaves. It's a joyous thing to be treated like a creative soul. I think that feeling is slipping into other parts of my life, and that might be what caused my sudden need to try my hand at songwriting. When you are treated like a writer with worth, you begin to believe it!
