Saturday was International Climate Change Day of Action

Postby SteveJayFromTassy » Sun Oct 25, 2009 8:08 am

http://macidol.com/song/25093 was the song I wrote to celebrate it 'cause I couldn't get to a rally. Now to practice what I'm preaching. :(
If it can be imagined, there is already porn based on it.

Yeah! Very cool song Steve, with an important message too. Love the synthy intro.

Real nice.

There's a trade secret to that, which I'll share ;-) Load up 2 new real instrument tracks and add the AU Pitch effect to each. Set one to +1200 cents shift (1 octave up), set the other to +1900 cents shift (a high fifth) and 100% effect (no original. Guitar (or voice) into mixer, pan to centre, mixer to Line in on Mac, Channel one to Line in left and channel 2 to line in right. Record strummed held chords (or long ah sounds if using voice) in concert with the rest of the tune.

For added warmth, create 2 more AU Pitch tracks, one tuned to -1200 cents, the other to -500 cents, and copy/paste the audio from the first 2 pitch tracks. The effect is not unlike Andy Summers' guitar synth work with The Police.

For even better harmonic action, load up an Electro-Harmonix HOG between guitar and input. At AU$1300, I didn't have one of these handy, but the sustain and expression tools on this effects pedal make it a true guitar or voice synth.

Nah! The Zebra 2 softsynth will have a preset that sounds the same...

Seriously, downloaded this yesterday and have played it quite a few times. Really like it. 8)

Great song Steve. Great tribute to the cause.
Sounds a bit like Tears for Fears, which, IMHO, is a good thing.
Thanks for sharing.
Cheers,
Tom

Yeah, I like this too... a little heavy on the effects, which is sort of funny for a song about living simply, but it's got a good beat, and you can dance to it... 8)
Thanks for the tip about the synth guitar sound. I'll have to try that!
