I go from the bottom up... how far will I go?
Am I Randy, Paula, or Simon?
Gave It My All by Gone
I can't recognize the song this is sampled from but it sure is some funky old soul. The rap is really from the guy's life too. very much appreciated.
Superposition by Brian N. Tuley
Nice glithcy techno with a strong melodic sense.
World of Stereo by Steve Sheridan
Hey! Another lap dulcimer player! Kind of a strummy seventies pop workout. Little bit "pitchy".
HindubOt by RObOtrOn
More very cool, edgy techno. I also like this guy's art. I will be visiting this page again and again...
Insecurity 1 by Maggie Osterberg
This is a new mix, the old one was garagey and had a kind of Hardcore Devo Vol. 1 aura, this one is the sleeker sexier "Peekaboo" era version. Nice one, Maggs!
I Love Moscow [club mix] by archie7777
Dance floor fodder. meh.
Rock'N'Roll2000 by FlowerPeace
Stub of a song (they just give you a chunk of it, one minute thirty seconds and that's it. ) Easily as creative as you would expect.
Dion Lee does not dissappoint with This Takes a Turn offa the album Music for Visualizers.
More great b horror movie music -- Somebody give this man a movie to score!!! Towards the end there's some great backwards sounds -- I can just see the movie this would go with.
TimeToRime by ElectricManiacFoundation
This guy sounds like he's about 15. Kinda a Fresh Prince kinda groove, though, so, like cognitive dissonance...
Pure Foods Eggs Are Bad by Pedicabo Vos & Irrumabo
don’t use them to make a cake: that would be a bad mistake but do listen to this tune, it's mad & mundane in a really clever way, and includes a very fine children's chorus.
Constellations Suite by Bill Josey
Bill's stuff is technically awesome. I would kill to be able to play & arrange like Bill. It sounds like he could score a three hour hollywood epic.
Paradise (Feat James Hunt) by Russ
Warning. Hi Voltage Music.
Swamp swami Three Cat Clem gives us a smoky, sexy seether called I Just Can't Give You That.
So tasty, so deeply, darkly funky.
I'll take a break, now. I would ask that if you want to comment on any of these songs, please start a new thread. It would suck if people stopped calling stuff out just because they were listed here. I'll try to keep this thread current for a while. I will attempt to say something about most every song: Don't expect everything to be positive, I may not like everything I hear. I will try to be honest, but not too cruel.
Remember, I am only a goober, and my opinion don't mean sh*t.

Hey, thanks for calling out these songs, Matt, i've been having a hard time keeping up with things!
You're not a goober at all, imho, and your opinion counts a LOT to me, personally; but i guess i'm going to sound like a goober now, as i feel the need to point out this thread, written by Chris (aka chrooke) and listed as a sticky in the news section:
http://www.macidol.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2635
(In number 3, he writes that the Tunes forum is the "feel good" forum, just thought i should mention it.)

...
I was trying to figure out a way to comment on every song on the front page, and I was hoping to turn it into bloging. Perhaps I should take it offsite, as the first amendment doesn't apply here.
I will reflect on what you're saying though My thinking is that even negative feedback is good feedback. A good friend tells the truth. I don't want to hurt anybody's feelings, though.
Checking back. in one case I said something that was a little harsh (but funny!*) In the other two cases where what I had to say was negative, they were both "pros" (if anybody at macidol can be said to be doing something pro,) and I don't regret either comment, really.
but still, this may not be worth doing...
Ah, well.
*it's a quote from their own web page...

I think everything said was constructive to neutral, so I won't yank your plug.
The "Dancefloor fodder. Meh." comment is rather hip, as "meh" is used as a grudging acknowledgement as much as a diss by the younger ones, too. (I cite playing The Radio Told Me to my 17yo and her reply, "Meh, s'ok, I s'pose... for an ol' minger." - High praise from Z.)
This mod says, "Let it stand."

I feel like i've been offensive or something, which honestly wasn't my intention, and i want to apologize if i have.
I don't think the thread should be locked at all, was only trying to point out the sticky, which i don't know we've all seen. I just think Chris's post pretty much sums up how we keep the atmosphere here, my opinion, of course (and i'm really the goober of the world, so... )
Anyway, i am sorry.
Sometimes i don't know when to speak up or when to keep quiet, or when to do just about anything, really.

Likewise, Slumby. Group hug.
(Yeh, I thought I went into it in Tunes, then came out in AAA. The silent mod strikes again? )

My first thought was that this was a valiant thread. I haven't had time to listen to much lately, much less comment on stuff. Or create anything.
I think as long as it doesn't get personal, it's okay to offer these thumbnail reviews, and it does get people listening to the songs. The problem would be if someone takes offense (and that's what people do all the time in internet forums) and strikes back. But it seems like a lot of people just dump their songs here and don't even notice the forum. So it's probably no big deal imho.

Mir--
I wasn't offended. I will take your point to heart. You were right to post what you did. It's important to remember that these are mostly folks who are not being supported in posting music at all, except that by the good graces of everyone who contributes to macidol, and who expect nothing in return but to be heard.
I have very little cash, and no tech expertise, so I have been casting about looking for a way to contribute to the health and growth of this site. I am, after sleeping on this, thinking I might continue.
I will try to do this out of appreciation. I may still, from time to time, call a spade a spade, but I will use my sarcasm for good, not evil. I promise to be controversy averse.

One more thing -- The flowers in my head made me put this in the wrong forum, I think... Could a kind and helpful moderater be convinced to put this in a more appropriate area, like, say, "iCritique" or some such?
Thanky!

How far will I get this time?
1. Sulk Sulk by Brian N. Tuley
Slow, spacey jazz number. Second awesome tune in a row from this dude from Algeria. Bands I am reminded of: Múm, Cocteau Twins, 10cc, Sheila Chandra... I like this guy's song art, too. I am definitely a fan.
2. Evil Clowns Skulk By Night by Keith Otis Edwards
This is woozy, wheezy manic fun. A little quote from the public domain near the end is a chuckle. The evil clown in the song art is priceless...
3. Feel The Music by Archie7777
"Lounge House Disco." So not my thing, but it's pretty pro sounding and would make a great porn soundtrack... Feel it, baby!
4. Blood in the Oil by Scott Savola
Heartfelt acoustic blues rock from the heartland.
5. King Wah by bill simon
This here is blues of an entirely different color. Very groovy & funky, nice layering of the lead guitar. I'd call it a classic rock style breakdown, done by a guy with a good pair of hands.
6. B&Massa has a ringtone of his song A Gallant Attempt At Immortality
You gots to pay to hear hifi versions of this tune, but the lofi stream at his site reminds me how good Steve is. Nice boppin' pop guitar music. Good luck in the war on entropy, dude!
7. My Beautiful Butter Knife by Zen Eyes
So disturbing and yet so funny. This has a unique but very dancey groove. The vocal sounds a little like Zarvox, but I don't think it is... This gets very wacky & spaced out by the end. Great stuff from Deputy Doofy!
8. Ballerina by David Jackel
I can't figure out whether it's a bondage ode or a vampire romance, but it is very moody and dark and romantic, a love song in a minor key. I imagine the guy strumming his guitar wearing black nail polish.
I have to go do stuff, so I have to stop here, but watch this space, I'll do another one of these someday soon.
